Methodology

How we work using DevOps

Our DevOps teams are cross-functional and autonomous, with full responsibility for the services they build and support.

Our team will contain an appropriate blend of development, operational and support experience to manage the type of application, infrastructure and preferred DevOps topology. The team composition can be adapted through the stages of a project lifecycle.

We have several different working models which can be adapted to suit each engagement; all models are designed to minimise time to market, to deliver high quality deployments and to ensure high availability of the service.

How we setup teams

At Objectivity, no teams are the same. Even similar clients may have diverse requirements so we offer a menu of standard services from which you can choose; and if there is anything missing, we'll work with you to supplement any gaps. Once the services have been defined, we use our knowledge of your business context and our DevOps framework to map the services to the required competencies. This enables us to build the DevOps team, selecting the right blend of skills and experience amongst the team members.

  1. This is the most typical model, where a DevOps team is responsible for the entire service, end-to-end. The team will possess the competence and experience to develop new features, fix bugs, deploy the solution to production and to support the service once live. This model is most suitable for clients who do not wish to build their own Operations team and who are focused on the functional aspects of the solution. In this case, the DevOps team has a great deal of autonomy and can become high performing, delivering frequent releases of software.

  2. In this model, the DevOps team sits between a client’s Operations team and a vendor’s Development team for a limited period to establish the DevOps processes and working practices. The goal is to educate both parties by introducing processes and tools so that they are equipped to work in a DevOps manner once the activity is complete. In this case, our DevOps team will comprise mainly operational expertise supplemented by development and support capability as required.
    This model works well for clients who wish to collaborate with multiple vendors and to build a strong Operations team of their own. It provides a standard framework for vendor Development teams as well as consistency and transparency for the Operations team.

  3. When a Client has a mature Operations function with established practices and tools, it is possible to outsource all or part of this function. Objectivity can fulfil both or either roles - as an outsourced Operations provider as well as providing one or more DevOps teams. The DevOps teams can be responsible for the whole service using processes and tools prescribed by Operations. This model is recommended for clients who wish to have maximum flexibility and to collaborate from time to time with multiple vendors.

  4. Depending on your IT organisation size and maturity, we can compose the best fit, scalable and cost-effective solution with blended services.
    We typically start with an ITIL Service Management framework to ensure proper governance of operations, capacity, availability, security and continual improvement.
    We also provide cloud subscription management to optimise both performance and the cost of hosting.
    We can also provide a 24/7 monitoring service and technical team availability for mission-critical systems.
