The Client

The Client is a retailer specialising in the distribution and reselling of popular electronics in the Polish market. They have over 20 stores across the biggest cities in Poland and a successful e-commerce platform.

Industry Retail
Technology Azure

Key Achievements

  • ERP cloud migration roadmap allowing the Client to scale their business
  • Modern Azure components enabling a simplified, cost-efficient architecture
  • Increased resiliency and reliability of the IT infrastructure

The challenge

Business Need

The Client needed to increase the reliability of their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and ensure it could be scaled up independently from local infrastructure constraints. They identified that cloud migration would be an optimal way of achieving these goals, and decided on Microsoft Azure as the platform of choice.

In order to prepare for the migration, the Client first needed a thorough audit of the existing infrastructure and recommendations on how to set up their cloud environment to accomplish their business goals. At the same time, they wanted the new architecture to increase resiliency by eliminating the existing single points of failure.

Finally, the Client needed a migration roadmap for moving their current IT infrastructure to the Azure cloud efficiently, and in a way that wouldn’t disrupt their business.

The solution

Project Details

The Objectivity team started the engagement by conducting a series of interviews with both the technical and business stakeholders. Their aim was to find motivations and goals for the migration. This, in turn, allowed the team to define the current and target state of the business and their implications on the architecture. These interviews allowed the team to prepare a detailed assessment based on an understanding of the big picture, the current state of the company, and the Client’s plans for the future.

The close cooperation and transparent process allowed the Objectivity team to openly discuss identified issues and find out why they arose in the first place. This approach also helped determine which areas required more focus and in-depth understanding prior to the assessment of the architecture itself.

Next, the team carried out an architecture audit. Its main objective was to determine whether the existing architecture is sufficient for the Client’s expansion plans. It was also crucial to assess the state of the architecture in the context of the upcoming cloud migration and the maturity of the initial migration approach. As a conclusion, Objectivity team organised a workshop with both business and technical stakeholders from the Client’s organisation. The workshop helped ensure that the business and technical strategies were aligned, which was necessary before proceeding with recommendations and migration roadmap.

After gathering all the necessary information, the team proposed a 6-phase migration plan consisting of the following steps based on the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework:

  • Phase 1: Assessment of business processes and mapping them to IT resources
  • Phase 2: Infrastructure and data migration assessment
  • Phase 3: Preparation of the foundational elements of cloud deployment (landing zone)
  • Phase 4: Test migration
  • Phase 5: Final migration
  • Phase 6: Establishing regular assessment and improvement processes for Azure Infrastructure Components

The Client received the migration roadmap, as well as several additional recommendations regarding the project. This allowed them to successfully migrate their business-critical processes to Microsoft Azure.

The results

Business Benefits

The thorough audit performed by the Objectivity team gave the Client an objective perspective on their architecture and the maturity of their approach to the cloud migration. In addition to enabling the successful migration of their system, the provided recommendations allowed the Client to make several other optimisations to their solution.

Mapping processes to IT resources allowed for more detailed auditing and reporting, which contributed to greater visibility and accountability. Azure deployment made the solution more future-proof as it prepared the infrastructure for further deployments and extensions. The final phase of the roadmap established monitoring and disaster recovery processes to guarantee long-term high performance and business continuity.

The level of cloud expertise provided by Objectivity allowed the Client to perform the migration seamlessly and with a strong focus on current and future business goals.
