Digital transformation has quickly become the reality for all business sectors and healthcare is no exception. The year 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic proved the importance of the digitalisation of medical services. Both public and private healthcare providers were faced with new challenges and had to open up to new technological possibilities.

The global Digital Health market is expected to see a 37.1% spike in growth in the year 2021 and will continue to expand further in the coming years. Technology will still permeate all aspects of healthcare services, from staff and facility management to patient care and diagnosis. 3. Telemedicine Software

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, telemedicine has become a quickly adopted alternative to the traditional, face-to-face delivery of medical services. Telemedicine software enables doctors to carry out consultations online and can be complemented with additional features like medicine prescription tools. Convenience and service accessibility contribute greatly to the popularity of this solution.

Out of all types of software used in hospitals, medical diagnosis programs may offer the most benefits to healthcare professionals. They can provide a holistic view on a patient’s condition thanks to automated data sharing across various medical specialities. Experts from different fields can add information to patient records and assess it in real-time and from a much broader perspective.

Artificial Intelligence technology plays an indispensable role here, though its extent may vary in different tools. In some cases, it provides simple acceleration of data exchange and diagnosis, in others, it may come with advanced features like early symptom detection. Either way, AI solutions hold a great potential for the future of medicine.

7. Remote Patient Monitoring Software

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) uses the latest technologies to collect patient data outside of hospitals or other institutions. Thanks to RPM applications, medical diagnostics can be performed remotely, regardless of the patient’s location. This type of healthcare software is extremely useful in times like these, where the COVID-19 pandemic is preventing a lot of doctors from meeting their patients. Having an RPM system in place also means that patients get the required treatment when and where they need it.

8. Hospital Management Software

Though many software solutions used in healthcare are intended at supporting the diagnosis making process or other aspects of patient care, dedicated IT systems can also simplify the process of running a medical institution. Hospital management software supports the staff by automating certain daily administrative tasks such as accounting or inventory management. Moreover, it can help monitor staffing and workload, making it easier to ensure proper coverage.

Even though these applications aren’t strictly connected to “professional” medical software, they come into the picture as an additional source of health data. The apps usually belong to one of the three categories: diet, fitness and wellbeing, or combine certain functions from each category. They're often paired with wearable devices, which can collect more accurate health data such as heart rate and sleep quality, or even function as glucometers or thermometers. If at some point the apps would be synced with actual patients records, they could supplement them with even more information.


In this day and age, medical institutions already have a wide range of solutions to choose from and new types of healthcare software will continue to emerge. Digital technologies help healthcare professionals keep up with their patients’ needs and identify and overcome the challenges of the current world situation. The new solutions not only simplify the management of a healthcare organisation but also bring the diagnosis making process onto a new level.
