Data Warehousing

Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence solutions have been a core skill since our conception

Objectivity’s fundaments are firmly anchored in a deep understanding of database technology. Relational databases offer excellent facilities for transaction processing applications. Although the sophistication behind the ones left standing has dramatically increased over the years, the principles behind them haven’t changed since Edgar Codd produced ‘the 12 rules’ to which a relational database should adhere.

However, the structures that work so well for transactional systems are particularly badly suited for large-scale online analytical processing (OLAP); trying to extract useful information out of large volumes of data. And this doesn’t even begin to address the difficulties of acquiring that information if the underlying data is spread over multiple systems.

Understanding the issues

When it comes to Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence tools, most of Objectivity’s experience lies in the Microsoft SQL Server area – although we have used Oracle as well. We have broad and deep knowledge of Data Warehouse issues such as data architecture, data transformation, OLAP cubes, MDX and ETL tools, as well as Business Intelligence reporting tools as Integration Services, Analysis Services and Reporting Services - and even Excel and dashboards.

Objectivity has a solid track record in building and maintaining data warehouses and business intelligence solutions, for companies such as Primark, IPC Media and Pertemps. Want to know more? Call Rob Helle or Murad Uddin on 02476 420 000.
