What is it? 5-Star Recognised for Excellence

When? November 2015

We like recognition. We like it not because it’s just a chance to show off but because it motivates us to keep improving and striving for the next level. Life is nothing without a few wins along the way.

Those of you who have been alert in class and have been paying attention will remember that we became members of EFQM earlier this year. For those who missed that news, you can find out a little about EFQM how we joined the group of around 450 institutions from all over the world in our blog here. And for those of you who don’t know what I am talking about to check out either those links, let’s just say that EFQM is a not-for-profit organisation which provides a unique platform for companies to learn from one another. There are various things that allow a company to become a member but there is one defining quality that links every single company: a pursuit for excellence. It is a network of companies who share best practices with the aim of helping others improve and learning for themselves.


On 5th November, after EFQM representatives had visited us here in Wrocław for four days, we were officially honored with the EFQM 5-Star Recognised for Excellence title. Objectivity was the only company in Poland to receive such recognition this year so far.

A 5-Star company:

  • Is a high-performing organisation where change is the norm
  • Improves, refines and simplifies the practices it uses to achieve its goals
  • Has ongoing results, in the line with its strategy

The results are not our main source of pride here. For us, good results come as a result of our love of change and our approach to Agile, along with simple processes that let everyone know our philosophy and how to act.

It also pleases us that we didn’t prepare for the EFQM visit in any special way. Our ‘take us as we are’ approach means that we know the recognition is based on who we really are. Of course, rather than beat our own drum, we should probably let the EFQM evaluation speak for us. Here is what they had to say:

“We have found that Objectivity is truly a unique organisation in many aspects, developing many approaches in an original and innovative way that makes the organisation different to others of their sector. Objectivity is clearly a value driven organization based on a win-win stakeholder relationship philosophy (culture compatibility) that drives all their actions. The main goal is to keep growing as much as possible without damaging what is has been already achieved, adding capital value to shareholders in a sustainable way.”

A number of things come with the recognition and 5-Star status, some of them are business benefits for us, others are exciting opportunities as we are on the same trajectory as companies like BMW and Bosch who are recognised as helping their clients change reality for the better.

Changing reality? Wow! Even writing those words sends a shiver down the spine. That is who we want to be! And, like all good companies in EFQM, once recognised on this level, we know that the only way to keep it is to give it away. That means we have the opportunity to organise events such as Open Days to share our excellence with other companies and help to change their realities for a brighter tomorrow for us all.
